And they aren’t “Think and Grow Rich” (though I still recommend it).
No, these are the books that made a true difference through explicit direction rather than platitudes.

#1 $100M Offers by Alex Hormozi
Is he a “business guru on YouTube”? Yes. But $100M Offers delivers the most succinct and important lessons in business creation I have ever read – and I took MBA classes at Harvard’s Business School!
His “Value Equation” chapter beginning on page 55 will fundamentally change your approach to creating an offer clients want to buy. And, if you are smart with it, the Value Equation can be applied to all aspects of life leading to a much better future.
Then there’s the second half of the book “Enhancing Your Offer” which eloquently demonstrates just how much you can control to get your customers to buy.
Is the book all about marketing and sales? Yes. But it is worth every. Single. Penny. There just isn’t a book like it.
#2 Atomic Habits by James Clear
A habit book? Of course! Business is personal discipline at its core and Atomic Habits reign supreme in that field. It’s not only the most detailed guide on personal control, but also (surprisingly) engaging! It is actually an entertaining read.
The greatest takeaway is Chapter 19 where he discusses the “Goldilocks Rule”. James Clear points out boredom is actually the greatest threat to success, not failure. Therefore, you should always restructure your habits to stay about 4% beyond your current ability.
Not only will this book help you succeed in managing yourself, but mastering its contents will help you succeed in any area of your life.
#3 Cold Calling Sucks (and That’s Why It Works)
At some point, you will need to do cold calls if you want your business to grow. It is just a fact.
Cold Calling Sucks (and That’s Why It Works) is all about cold calls and admittedly a very difficult read. The “have you heard our company name tossed around?” opener is just downright arrogant.
That said, if you skip to Chapter 4 on the 18 Objections and How to handle them, you’ll find exactly why this book has such strong reviews. It walks you through every cold call objection and how to respond in a way that continues the conversation.
The bottom line is memorizing the methods in this book will save many of your rookie sales calls from amounting to nothing.
#4 Cold Email Manifesto
If you don’t like cold calls, then it’s cold emails and Cold Email Manifesto will help you navigate through this far-more-complicated-than-you-think process.
Personally, I find this book more of a word vomit than a properly structured how-to book. However, the information it contains is critical to success in cold emails. What to write, how to send them, when to send them, and more is all covered in detail. It will save you so much time following their structure rather than thinking of your own.
Even if you don’t read the book, do yourself a favor and do NOT send cold emails from your new email address without reading up on how email spam filters work.
